The opportunities to own an original Oldham just got broader.
Robin Oldham, sister of fashion designer Todd Oldham, has joined Tracy Graivier Bell in a new venture. Part gallery, part studio, part party space, Smashing Times® in North Dallas' Preston Royal Shopping Center turns mosaic into high (or at least fun) art.
Brightly colored glass and ceramic tile decorates most everything in the store, which opened June 12 and currently features the work of six artists. Whimsical birdbaths and delicate collages come courtesy of mom Linda Oldham. Tiled shoes, toasters and coffeepots are the work of model and artist Patty Goya. Robin Oldham's specialty is lamp fixtures.
Recently, carloads of bubbly 8-year olds were spilling into the store to create picture frames for a craft-themed birthday party. ("It was noisier the night we had 25 attorneys," Robin Oldham confides.) For those who'd rather do it at home, there are takeout kits for vases, frames, flowerpots, coaster sets and candle holders (priced from $12.95 to $39.95.).
Fans of the Oldham aesthetic will also appreciate the airbrushed cash register area by brother Brad Oldham, and the presence of the very stylish, scarf-wearing terrier, Lois, whose photos also grace the DIY kits.
