1. Use tile nippers to clip dishes into small, irregular pieces (figure A). Always wear safety goggles and work gloves when breaking dishes.
2. Use a spatula to apply a thin layer of ceramic-tile adhesive onto a small section of the object that is being covered (figure B). Place dish fragments close together on the adhesive, randomly mixing the patterns and solids (figure C). Allow to dry for 48 hours.
3. Prepare and carefully apply grout with
hands while wearing rubber gloves (figure D). Fill spaces between the fragments.
4. As the grout begins to set, wipe the excess from the fragments and allow the grout to dry for about 20 minutes.
5. Wipe off remaining chalky residue with a clean, dry rag (figure E).
6. Allow to dry for 48 hours before applying two coats of grout sealer to the soap dish to waterproof it.
